The Need of a Deeper Christianity
In this present age many who once walked gladly in the churches have grown silent and heavy of heart. They love the name of Christ, yet no longer find in the common teaching the life that once burned in the first disciples. They hear many voices speaking of faith, yet few that speak from experience of the Spirit.
To such, the Sanctorium extends an invitation. Advanced Christianity is not a new doctrine, but a return to the simplicity and inwardness of the Gospel as it was first lived and taught. It seeks to gather those who still love the Lord Jesus, yet hunger for an understanding of His mysteries deeper than the forms of creed and ceremony can give.
Its purpose is to rekindle faith where the world has dimmed it, to bring back the consciousness of the living Christ in the soul, and to teach again that the true temple of God is not of stone, but of the heart that has been made clean.
The Work of the Study Circle
In these meetings we consider the inner meaning of the teachings of Christ, the law of the soul’s unfoldment, and the way by which man may again walk with God. We read from the Holy Scriptures and from those writings of the Church of Illumination which show the same light under another form.
This work is not speculative, nor intended for idle questioning. It calls the student to self-examination, to quiet discipline, and to the ordering of daily life in accordance with divine law. Those who enter it are asked to live purely, to guard their speech, and to be diligent in secret prayer. Only through obedience is understanding given.
The circle exists not for debate, but for mutual strengthening—a place of stillness and of learning, where the soul may regain its hearing after the noise of the world has ceased.
The Method of Instruction
The study proceeds gradually, in the same order that nature follows in all growth—from the outward to the inward, from the letter to the spirit. The first lessons deal with purification of motive, mastery of thought, and the recognition of the divine presence. Later lessons lead toward the understanding of the hidden laws of regeneration and illumination.
Some members meet together in person; others receive instruction by correspondence and carry forward the same meditations in their own quiet hours. All are bound by the same law of reverence and by the same desire to live according to the Light they have received.
Each gathering is opened and closed in silence, that the Spirit may be free to speak as it will. Nothing is urged by argument; nothing is withheld from the sincere. The law of the work is charity, order, and obedience.
The Call to the Faithful
This invitation is for those who, while holding fast to their love of Christ, have felt the hunger of the soul unfilled. It is for those who see that religion must once again be living and inward, or it will perish beneath its own husks.
If you have known the Christ of doctrine but would know the Christ of experience; if you desire to serve God with understanding and to walk in the path of illumination; then the door of this study work stands open to you.
